Shane Andrew joins SF鈥檚 Academy as principal

portraitThe Academy of Science and Technology at B体育官网入口 will launch its third year this Fall under the leadership of new principal Shane Andrew, M.S., who starts August 1.

Andrew, an Alachua County native, has served the students and staff of Alachua County Public Schools (ACPS) for more than 34 years.  He will join the Academy as it welcomes its third freshman class and advances its first class of juniors.

Most recently, Andrew was Superintendent of ACPS, where he led school turn-around efforts in the elementary schools, collaborated with Eastside High School and Junior Achievement to kick off the 3DE program for all major program students, and continued to lead efforts to enhance student services in all areas.

Prior to that, he was Chief of Operations for the district, providing effective leadership, direction and oversight for several key district functions, including human resources, professional development, facilities construction, maintenance and planning, and student transportation.

Andrew is a graduate of B体育官网入口 and has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in education at the University of Florida, and master鈥檚 degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

The Academy of Science and Technology opened in Fall 2023 on the B体育官网入口 Northwest Campus with a mission to assist students in earning an Associate of Science degree and industry certifications while completing their high school graduation requirements, at no cost to the students or families.

Andrew follows principal William McElory, who retired.

Andrew鈥檚 tenure also includes five years as principal of Eastside High School where he implemented the College Board AP Capstone Program schoolwide to help all students develop research, teamwork and communication skills through advanced coursework. In collaboration with school and district staff, he implemented the school鈥檚 Medical Skills Career-Tech program, which has successfully prepared students for continuing education and work in the healthcare field. He also was principal for Newberry High School, which earned its first 鈥楢鈥 grade based on the academic achievement of its students.

Andrew has served in leadership roles with statewide organizations including the Florida Educational Facilities Planners鈥 Association and the Florida League of Middle Schools. He also served on the Alachua County Children's Trust Board and the Greater Gainesville Chamber of Commerce Board.
